How the Groundhog Stole Valentine's Day

On February 6, Elizabeth's school and the entire first grade classes presented the play How the Groundhog Stole Valentine's Day. They sang songs and had an actual play. There were only a few characters in the play and my little drama queen was one of them. She was one of two of the groundhogs friends in the end. She was also on the front row for the songs and she took full advantage of this fact and did every song better and more accurate than the music teacher. I swear you could also hear her voice singing over all the other approx 90 first graders. (I don't know where she gets it..what with Mommy's drama and theater background and Daddy's musical talent!) I honestly think she was the best one there. But then again, I may be a little biased.

Here's Little Miss Drama Queen: ( I don't know why there is a white line on some of these!)

Baptism

Holy Baptism for Children, February 4, 207, Indian Trail United Methodist Church

Pastor Jim:
Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
Through the Sacrament of Baptism
we are initiated into Christ's holy church.
We are incorporated into God's mighty acts of salvation
and given new birth through water and the Spirit.
All this is God's gift, offered to us without price.

I present Banastre Alexander Tarleton for Baptism.

Pastor Jim to Matt and Lora:
On behalf of the whole church I ask you:
Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness,
reject the evil forces of this world,
and repent of you sin?

M & L:
We do.

Pastor Jim:
Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you
to resist evil, injustice, and oppression
in whatever forms they present themselves?

M & L:
We do.

Pastor Jim:
Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior,
put your whole trust in his grace,
and promise to serve him as your Lord,
in union with the church which Christ has opened
to people of all ages, nations and races?

M & L:
We do.

Pastor Jim:
Will you nurture Banastre
in Christ's holy church,
that by your teaching and example he may be guided
to accept God's grace for himself,
to profess his faith openly,
and to lead a Christian life?

M & L:
We will.

Pastor Jim to the congregation:

Do you as Christ's body, the church,
reaffirm both your rejection of sin
and your commitment to Christ?

We do.

Will you nurture one another in the Christian faith and life and include Banastre in your care?

With God's help we will proclaim the good news
and live according to the example of Christ.
We will surround Banastre
with a community of love and forgiveness,
that he may grow in his service to others.
We will pray for him,
that he may be a true disciple
who walks in the way that leads to life.

Pastor Jim to all:
Let us join together in professing the Christian faith
as contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments,
Do you believe in God the Father?

I believe in God, the Father Almighty
creator of heaven and earth.

Do you believe in Jesus Christ?

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe in the Holy Spirit?

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church (meaning God's church)
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.

The water was now added to the font. It includes water from the River Jordan, where Jesus was baptized.)

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Let us pray.

Eternal Father:
When nothing existed but chaos,
you swept across the dark waters
and brought forth light.
In the days of Noah
you saved those on the ark through water.
After the flood you set in the clouds a rainbow.
When you saw your people as slaves in Egypt,
you led them to freedom through the sea.
Their children you brought through the Jordan
to the land which you promised.

Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Tell of God's Mercy each day.

In the fullness of time you sent Jesus,
nurtured in the water of a womb.
He was baptized by John and anointed by your Spirit.
He called his disciples
to share in the baptism of his death and resurrection
and to make disciples out of all nations.

Declare his works to the nations,
his glory among all people.

Pour out your Holy Spirit,
to bless this gift of water and those who receive it,
to wash away their sin
and clothe them in righteousness
throughout their lives,
that, dying and being raised with Christ,
they may share in his final victory.

All praise to you, Eternal Father,
through your Son Jesus Christ,
who with you and the Holy Spirit
lives and reigns for ever,
Amen.

Banastre, I baptize you in the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

The Holy Spirit work within you,
that being born through water and the Spirit
you may be a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Now it is our joy to welcome
our new brother in Christ.

Through baptism
your are incorporated by the Holy Spirit
into God's new creation
and made to share in Christ's royal priesthood.
We are all one in Christ Jesus.
With joy and thanksgiving we welcome you as a member of the family of Christ.

Members of the household of God,
I commend Banastre to your love and care.
Do all in your power to increase his faith,
confirm his hope, and protect him in love.

We give thanks for all that God has already given you
and we welcome you in Christian love.
As members together with you
in the body of Christ
and in this congregation
of The United Methodist Church,
we renew our covenant
faithfully to participate
in the ministries of our church
by our prayers, our presence,
our gifts, and our service,
that in everything God may be glorified
through Jesus Christ.

Pastor Jim to Banastre:
The God of all grace,
who has called you to eternal glory in Christ,
establish you and strengthen you
by the power of the Holy Spirit,
that you may live in grace and peace.

On this same day, Matt, Elizabeth, and I also joined our church family. We feel so loved and welcomed at this church. It is unlike any church we have ever been to. The Lord is definitely in this place and will take it very far in the near future.

*The water from the River Jordan was collected by Grandma Sue and Grandpa Reg when they visited the Holy Land. Elizabeth was also baptized with some of this water. They keep a small vial in their freezer for this purpose.

PARTY!!!!!!!

Banastre's First Birthday Party was a blast!! We had family, friends, food, drinks, cake, cheesecake, balloons, and presents! What more could you ask for?

First, our family and friends in attendance:
Grandma, Grandpa, Nana, Uncle Art & Aunt Jimena, Aunt Lauren & Matt, Angela, Eric, and Grant, Lora and Lily, Mrs. Barbie, Jasmine, Spencer, Kenny, and Dawson.

We had lots of food. Including all the fixings for sandwiches, a vegetable tray, a fruit tray, chips, and cheese puffs. The best part though...the cakes!!! We had an Oreo Cheesecake, a regular birthday cake, and a miniature Oreo cheesecake for the birthday boy himself!

Banastre also received more toys than he knows what to do with! We are still working our way through them all. We didn't want to overwhelm him by giving him all of them at the same time!

Thank you to each and every one of you that took time out of your Saturday to spend with us celebrating Banastre's first year!!! It really means a lot to us to have all of our family and friends close by and we love spending time with all of you!!!!!

So, here are the pics. I will try to do captions, but blogger is giving me a hard time tonight! I guess it knows that I have a lot of posting to do tonight!

Elizabeth and Banastre serenading the guests as they arrived.

What a healthy meal!! Cheese, ham, and cheese puffs.

One of my favorite gifts. TMX Elmo!

A choo choo!!!

Ta Da...My very own cheesecake!!!!!

I wonder how I should eat it?

Let's see if the whole thing will fit!!!!

Hey, does anyone else want some???

Needless to say that Banastre really enjoyed his birthday cake. Mommy had to wash it out of his hair and ears that night!

Here's Lily hamming it up for the camera!

Eric, Angela, and Grant enjoying cake.

Lily and Banastre checking out his new ride on toy.

Ok, Blogger thinks that is enough pics of the birthday party. Coming up next, Banastre's baptism, How a Groundhog Stole Valentine's Day, and Tacky Day at Elizabeth's school.

Things learned in my first year...

In the past year I have grown and learned so many things. I started my journey On February 1, 2006 at 7 lbs. 3oz. and 19 1/2 inches long. I now weigh 22 lbs. and Mommy will know my length at my doctors appointment Monday! But I know I have gotten much longer. In the beginning, I could only cry when I needed my Mommy or Daddy. Now, I can say lots of words and I even know what they mean. Like, Mama and Dada. When I say these my Mommy and Daddy turn their attention to me. Cracker and Gaga will get me food and juice, especially my crackers!! If these taste good to me, I will close my eyes and say MMMMmmm. Dog and Cat are those two furry animals that live with me. Thank you is what I say if you give me something or when I give you something. Uh oh is what happens when I drop my toy, food, or cup. (Or if I throw them too.) Hey and Bye Bye are what I tell you when I see you or if you are leaving. I have even managed to include a wave with these two things too. Fish are those things in the big glass box. I know a duck when I see one too. There are a lot more things I can say and do, but Mommy and Daddy get the biggest kick out of my "ROOAAARRRR" that I say when I see anything I think might growl.

(Actually, it took so long for my Mommy to finally post this that when I went to the doctor I weighed 20 lbs. 12 oz (25%) and that means I have lost two pounds and I was 30 inches long (75%) and my head circumference was 46cm (95%). So, I am skinny, tall, and have a big head!!!

Look at how much I have changed:

Happy First Birthday Banastre!!!!!

Today my baby boy turned 1! I can't believe it has already been a year since the first time I held him. This year has flown by and he has changed so much!! But, more on that later!
Banastre's first birthday present...SNOW!!! Yes, we were out playing in the snow at 8:30 this morning. Elizabeth couldn't wait another second and so out the door we went.

Banastre wasn't too sure at first, but he did eventually end up liking it. (He did have gloves on right after this pic!!)

This snow ball ended up getting Elizabeth!! We had lots of fun with a snowball fight!!

Here's a pic of how pretty everything looked with the snow. Doesn't the pond look great?

After getting very cold, we all ventured back in. At lunch time we decided we had had enough of being inside and went to Lone Star for lunch with Grandma and Grandpa.

He enjoyed all of his lunch and then we all went home.

This evening after dinner, we gave the birthday boy a piece of chocolate cake with oreo's on top. He was very sweet in the beginning and would only take small bites off with his hand and put them in his mouth. He eventually got tired of this though and grabbed the whole piece and started chowing down. This is the aftermath:

So, now he is in bed and Mommy is ready too. Tomorrow I will post on all of his achievements in the past year and Saturday is his birthday party!!!
